
It will be held from May 25th to May 30th, in Granada and will feature the main TV channels and platforms in Spain, Latin America and North America
IBERSERIES, the International Festival of Series in Spanish was presented at the Bolívar Hall of Casa de América in Madrid, an event with the presence of Mr. Raúl Berdonés, president of the Fundación Secuoya; Mr. Samuel Castro Hansson, the director of the Festival; Granada’s Mayor, Mr. Luis Salvador; as well as Mrs. Ángeles González-Sinde, in representation of the Festival’s Advisory Committee.
Promoted by Fundación Secuoya and supported by institutions such as Casa de América, ICEX, Junta Andalucía, Diputación de Granada, Ayuntamiento de Granada, Patronato de la Alhambra, Generalife and the Centro Federico García Lorca. It is, however, an event whose authorship does not belong “to any private group nor is it the patrimony of any institution, it is an initiative by and for the industry”, stated Mr. Raúl Berdonés, president of the Fundacion Secuoya. It is a festival dedicated exclusively to Spanish-language series, with the participation of the main television channels and platforms in Spain, Latin America and North America.
According to Mr. Berdonés, “we want to unite countries, people and stories” and at the same time he stated that “this is a project that we have been developing for two years and today it is finally a reality”. Mrs. Ángeles González-Sinde, declared as representative of the Advisory Committee that “Iberseries is an essential opportunity for the industry that will act as a meeting point for all those who love the series”. She also highlighted ” the legitimization that supposes that this scenario of reflection and analysis exists on the present and future of the sector “.
IBERSERIES, according to its managers, was born with the vocation to serve as an international meeting point between fiction creators and producers of Spanish-language television as well as being a place where professionals in the sector can publicize their projects and establish union ties and business for the future.
Samuel Castro Hansson, director of the Festival informed those present of its structure, that “at this moment we can communicate that we have the support of a great part of the televisions and platforms that operate in Spanish, including Spain, Latin America and North America. NETFLIX, HBO, MOVISTAR+, ATRESMEDIA, DISNEY ESPAÑA, etc… and they are in conversations with AMAZON, TVE, CARACOL, RCN, TELEVISA, TELEMUNDO, etc…”.
Granada, universally linked to culture and to the Spanish language, has been the city chosen for this meeting, which will take place in several venues of the emblematic Spanish city. Mayor Mr. Luis Miguel Salvador said in his speech that “Today is a great day for Granada as this Festival comes to enrich the cultural offerings offered by the city. He also commented that “as Mayor I feel very proud to have people from Granada like Mr. Raúl Berdonés who with that feeling of belonging so great they bet on their hometown.”
The Festival has a prestigious Advisory Committee headed by the filmmakers Mrs. Ángeles González Sinde and Mrs. Isabel Coixet; the producer, founder of Argos Comunicación and Guatemalan journalist based in Mexico Epigmenio Ibarra and Claudia Triana, President of Proimágenes Colombia.
During five days, IBERSERIES will be a compendium of premieres, contents and meetings among which the following sections will stand out:
CHAPTER 1: Section in which the premieres of the most outstanding Spanish series of the 2020/21 season will take place.
IBERSERIES PRO: Section in which meetings will be held for professionals in the sector, which will address points of interest, such as the international success of the series in Spanish, financing opportunities, the link of the literature with the series, the current market situation, etc…
IBERSERIES PLUS: Meeting point with the public. Masterclasses, conferences, colloquiums, meetings with showrunners and creators. It is necessary to emphasize a Master Lesson given by a professional of the Industry with great prestige and international success.
In addition, the festival will include within its program, an Opening Gala and a Closing Gala; premiere screenings of new projects and new deliveries of highly successful projects; meetings for the national and international press with the protagonists, producers and directors of these projects, conferences, round tables, cultural activities in the streets of Granada and in emblematic places of the city, and a long etcetera of events, which will place Granada as the epicenter of television fiction in Spanish.
